The Shadow Ridge Bee Farm has been operating for twelve years, We are a growing family of beekeepers, and friends in natural way of life.

Harold got started in beekeeping when he was only a boy; but then it was more like bee having, there was not enough research or information readily available to truly be beekeepers. His dad, Howard Watkins, had lots of honeybees; those famous “little black killer bees” old-timers will tell you horror stories about.  He and his brothers helped Howard rob the bees when they were not running for their lives.

After noticing that it had been a long while since we had seen any honeybees we began to wonder about crops and pollination.  What were the farmers going to do?  We saw there is a major need for this craft that is old and almost forgotten.  Harold is a third generation beekeeper, his grandfathers on both sides were beekeepers, Robert Painter and Lon Watkins kept bees and sold honey to folk for miles around.  It is little wonder that he has always had a fascination and a natural gift for this gentle craft.  He truly is a “bee charmer”.

The Artistry of Beekeeping... We believe that beekeeping is an undertaking of gentleness and respect for nature.  For three generations, the Watkins family has been "charming bees" and harvesting their precious gifts. We are beekeepers - meaning that we nurture and sustain our colonies. Understanding the nature of bees and their culture is key.

We offer Wildflower and Sourwood Honey... All are pure, raw, prize-winning honeys from mostly the northwestern and coastal areas of Georgia. Our bees gather nectar from many local botanical varieties, some indigenous only to the Southeastern United States, and home to some of the best-tasting honey available anywhere.

Just farming, nature's way of letting you know how small we really are... When you start out with a little vegetable garden an a few beehives then you see all the fasinating fruits, veggies and activities that go on in and around the farm.  Next thing you know there are chickens, ducks, big ole turkeys, grape vines, and all manner of fruit trees.  Then the grandkids come over and they cannot comprehend that, "chickens lay eggs?"

We're Passing on Our Knowledge to a New Generation... Our observation beehive piques interest in young and old alike, and we enjoy sharing it at expositions, school assemblies and other educational gatherings. As we show others what we know, we keep learning too, through our membership in the Beekeeping Institute and the Georgia Beekeepers Association. We attend many events to stay informed and up to date on the latest techniques for producing the fine products we offer today.

All of Our Honey Processing Conforms to U.S.D.A. Specifications... We take great care to preserve the purity and clarity of each harvest our bees produce. Our honey is laboratory-analyzed and pollens identified so we can be sure of the source blossom.
